Abstract

AbstractThis paper focusses on a code analysis of the main industry codes used to determine the actions during ocean transportation for a modular design project. The scope of this study is for default motion cases on unrestricted weather conditions. The main industry codes are the Noble Denton (DNV) guidelines which are used in conjunction with the offshore ISO codes. This paper offers a comparison between the approaches given for the allowable stress design (ASD) and the load factor design (LRFD) according the DNV guidelines. This paper also offers a reference to the Eurocodes in regard to the terminology used and its level of reliability. This study also includes a worked example and a sensitivity analysis based on the type of vessel.
