Abstract

The manner in which Devanagari script is usually written, is not well suited for communication with machines. A machine oriented Devanagari script (MODS) is proposed. The advantages and consequences of its usage are discussed. MODS uses a star operator to account for the representation of half letters and matras. The juxtaposed string of symbols of MODS makes it as attractive as Roman script as far as communication with a machine is concerned.
