MO‐D‐L100E‐01: Ultrasound QC Workshop

Abstract

Quality control (QC) testing of ultrasound scanners is important to verify the proper and consistent operation of these devices in diagnostic imaging. The increasing popularity of the American College of Radiology's ultrasound accreditation program and the upcoming Task Group 128 report, Development of QC Test Procedures for Endorectal Ultrasound Imaging, emphasize the importance of establishing a strong ultrasound quality assurance (QA) program. The American College of Radiology's ultrasound accreditation program requires a QA program be established for all ultrasound scanners, but the nature of this QA program is left largely to the discretion of the medical physicist or physician in charge. This year's workshop has been streamlined to provide information on and hands‐on experience with the types of tests recommended for a comprehensive ultrasound QA/QC program. Two brief presentations on QC testing of general‐purpose ultrasound and of endorectal ultrasound equipment particularly for prostate brachytherapy will be followed by 90 minutes of hands‐on demonstrations with experienced instructors. Various tools and phantoms for QC testing of ultrasound scanners and transducers will be available for demonstration.Educational Objectives:1.
