Abstract
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) and stroke are associated with many risk factors. These risk factors and lifestyle choices are usually long-standing and have been the subject of outpatient medical visits for years before the stroke event. Many patients do not adhere to medication regimens and lifestyle modifications suggested by practitioners. Better strategies must be found to engage and motivate patients to manage risk factors necessary to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke. This study attempted to determine if intensive individualized educational plans for patients after TIA or stroke impacted their attention to risk factors and lifestyle changes.
