Abstract

Herein we report the electrochemical reductive adsorption of 4-(trimethylammonio)-phenyl diazonium salt on a gold surface. We focus on the electrochemical response of the grafted surface to charged redox species by cyclic voltammetry. The surface composition of the grafted phenyl derivative layer is investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results suggest electrochemical instability of the 4-(trimethylammonio)-phenyl derivative on gold.
