Abstract

A new phenomenological model for the electromagnetic (EM) form factor (FF) of the 4He nucleus is presented, which is based on a modification of the well known vector meson dominance (VMD) model of EM hadron interactions by means of an incorporation of the correct 4He FF analytic properties, non-zero vector meson widths and the correct power asymptotic behaviour as predicted by the quark model. It reproduces quite well the existing experimental information on the 4He EM FF in the spacelike region. Furthermore, the couplings of all the well established isoscalar vector mesons with JPC=1-- to the 4He nucleus are evaluated as a result of the analysis, and the timelike behaviour of the 4He EM FF is predicted.
