Abstract

Channel estimation plays an important role in the performance of any communication system. To reduce the effects of hostile channel signals, precise channel estimate must be performed during signal processing. To achieve higher array gains for the signal as well as to reduce hardware cost hybrid precoders are used. It is difficult to configure hybrid precoders and combiners in Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) antenna systems that are operating at mm-wave frequency band. In this paper, a modified simultaneous weighted orthogonal matching pursuit technique is proposed for channel estimation in Massive MIMO systems, both on the uplink to configure precoders and on the downstream to configure combiners. In this first, the base station estimates the mobile station's channels on each sub-carrier and estimates the mobile station's channels. Then, the mobile station channel estimates the hybrid precoders and combiners of the designed base station. In this paper, the performance of channel estimation is measured in terms of normalized mean square error (NMSE) and spectral efficiency (SE). From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed algorithm reduces the NMSE and improves the SE as the number of users in the massive MIMO antenna system increases.
