Abstract

Recently, solar photovoltaic based power generation is found to be more efficient than other renewable energy sources like fuel cells, wind, tidal etc. For a two stage photovoltaic grid interactive system, normal boost converters have certain disadvantages like higher duty ratio, higher voltage ripple etc which can be mitigated by a modified boost converter which has a quadratic gain and output voltage ripple is also reduced to a certain limit. For the inverter control, commonly used synchronous reference frame (SRF) based control is implemented as it is simpler to implement. SRF based control can generate the switching signals required for inverter so as to minimize harmonic issues at grid side. Solar energy is extracted at maximum power using incremental conductance (INC) technique. Simulations are carried out in MATLAB/Simulink.
