Abstract

The highly effective technique of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) in the classical phase II surgery for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is associated with esthetic facial alterations. This preliminary report of a modified MMA technique demonstrates that by incorporating anterior maxillary and mandibular segmental surgeries to the standard LeFort I and bilateral sagittal split osteotomies, an increase in the posterior airway space can be achieved without significant facial profile changes. This technique is of particular importance to Asians on whom traditional MMA frequently results in unacceptable facial alterations
