Abstract

Failure mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is a traditional method to identify the weakness of a motorized spindle unit. As traditional FMECA ignored maintenance cost when a motorized spindle broke down, the result of FMECA is inaccurate. To solve this deficiency, the authors put forward a modified FMECA method counting the maintenance costs which included the factory profit, factory labor fee, machine fee, labor fee of maintenance and maintenance material cost. Based on fault data collected in the factory, both traditional and modified FMECAs of motorized spindle units were applied to instances. And the results showed that the modified FMECA was more reasonable and accurate than the traditional FMECA.
