Abstract

Introduction: A tracheo-oesophageal valve for speech restoration is commonly used following total laryngectomy. Limitations include leakage around the prosthesis, granuloma formation and lack of retention due to poor tissue integrity and altered anatomy post-surgery. This poses a significant challenge when using conventional rehabilitation techniques and patient focused adaptations are necessary. We present the use of a custom-made laryngectomy stoma prosthesis to improve functional voice restoration.
