Abstract
A straightforward reaction between 1,3-dimethyl-1H-imidazolium iodide (1) and AgF in acetonitrile (molar ratio 2: 3) results in bis[1,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene-κC2]silver(1+) hydrofluorides (2) and AgI in an almost quantitative yield. Hydrofluorides 2, namely, [(C5H8N2)2Ag]+[HF2]- (2a) and [(C5H8N2)2Ag]+[H2F3]- (2b), were isolated under different crystallization conditions. Crystal and molecular structures of hydrofluorides 2a and 2b as well as that of the initial salt 1 were established by X-ray diffraction analysis.
