Abstract

When electrons scatter from an electroweak string, helicity is not conserved, contrary to the usual Aharanov-Bohm scattering. The scattering problem for the Dirac equation is solved in the background of an eletroweak string and the helicity changing amplitude is determined. The results apply also for GUT cosmic strings.
