Abstract
Summary The composition and metabolism of chromosomal proteins associated with the genome of WI-38 human diploid fibroblasts and SV-40 transformed WI-38 fibroblasts were compared. While the five major histone fractions are present in normal and SV-40 transformed cells, variations in the relative contents and rates of synthesis of specific histone fractions are described. Differences in the protein contents and rates of synthesis of several molecular weight classes of nonhistone chromosomal proteins in normal and SV-40 transformed WI-38 cells are also reported.
