Abstract

Organic-inorganic composite materials were obtained by surface modification of acid-activated clinoptilolite tuff by chloromethyl silanes. It is shown on the basis of data of IR spectroscopy that modifier fixation on the sorbent matrix occurs with the participation of isolated silanol groups with formation of the — Si-O-Si-bond. The method of low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption is used to consider variation of surface properties and porosity of clinoptilolite tuff due to its chemical modification. Selective adsorption of toluene from a mixture with water, together with thermogravimetry data, points to enhancement of hydrophobic properties of alumosilicate modified by chloromethyl silanes.
