Abstract

ntraoral sagittal split ramus osteotomy is one of the most idely used, versatile but sensitive procedures for mandibuar deformities, and requires considerable skill. The posterior ite of the osteotomy cut makes visibility difficult; many soluions have been tried to improve it, but most, like channel etractors, are not cost-effective. To improve visibility for he osteotomy we have devised the following modification: fter routine incision and dissection, the coronoid process is eld with the help of a Kocher’s forceps to retract the soft issue, and to aid in lateral positioning of the mandible for he lingual cut.1,2 With the help of the cuff of an autoclaved love or an autoclaved rubber band, a fibreoptic light source s stabilised on the dorsal aspect of the Kocher’s forceps proiding retraction, illumination, and visibility (Figs. 1 and 2). ur experience of this technique shows that it gives not only
