Abstract

The formation of cytochrome P-450 “metabolic intermediate” complexes in vivo occurred with acetylmethadol and propoxyphene, but not methadone in both naive and phenobarbital-induced animals. The in vivo formation correlated with the relative ability of these three compounds to form metabolic intermediate complexes and inhibit mixed-function oxidation reactions in vitro .
