Abstract

Research on the modification of the Fenton method with irradiationless approach has been carried out in decolorizing remazol black B (RBB) solutions. This study begins with the preparation of lead oxide material which is used to modify the Fenton method and characterization. Lead oxide is synthesized from Pb2+ ions by bath method through a redox reaction. The ions are reduced with NaBH4 in the first step and oxidized with strong oxidizing agents NaOCl and (NH4)2S2O8 in the second stage. The product precipitate was oven-dried and continued with XRD and SEM-EDS characterization. Quantitative analysis of analytes was carried out by UV-Visible spectrometry. The synthetic product is categorized as nanomaterial, PbO2, was applied as a modifier of the Fenton method decolorization of 100 mL of 50 ppm RBB solution without irradiation. A few PbO2 as 0.1 g was able to be used in rapid decolorization of the RBB dye sample solution up to 95.2 %. The spectral profile of the solution after decolorization was obtained by evaluating its UV-Vis spectra before and after treatment with modified Fenton method. The oxide, PbO2, has great potential in modifying the Fenton method in decolorizing remazol black B solution with a process that is significantly faster and different from the previous method.
