Abstract

An algorithm for modifying the shape of a Bézier curve is proposed that uses the formula for the difference of two Bézier curves. This algorithm is iterative, and it can be applied to tensor products and triangular Bézier patches in addition to curves. The shape of the curve (surface) can be modified by two independent sets of shape parameters. The algorithm can be combined with the subdivision algorithm, and, in this case, it is possible to modify smaller sections of the curves and surfaces. The algorithm is efficient, especially in modeling forms that deviate slightly from a simpler, basic form.
