Abstract
A liquid-poison bait dispenser, constructed from a 6-inch diameter, plastic, chicken-watering device and fitted, with a Mason jar reservoir, has proven to be effective in dispensing poison baits for control of house flies (Musca domestica L.). A cellulose sponge fitted at an angle in the trough of the dispenser prevented the accumulation of dead flies on the feeding surface. When charged with liquid or solid formulations of DDVP, such dispensers were effective in controlling house fly populations in dairy barns and chicken ranches for a 10-week observation period. Installation was at the rate of one dispenser per 1,500 square feet of floor area. Refilling of the Mason jar with sugar-water solution was required approximately every 3 weeks for maximum efficiency.
