Abstract

The catalytic influence of dichlorotris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium II, Cl 2Ru(PPh 3) 3 (I), on chemical modification of 1,2-polybutadienes ( M a < 10,000 ) by carbon tetrachloride (II) has been studied. The yield, determined from chlorine contents of polymers, has been followed by considering in turn all factors which can influence the reaction, i.e. reaction temperature, nature and quantity of solvent, (I) and (II) concentrations, reaction time, surrounding atmosphere. It has also been shown that catalyst (I) can be reused several times before it loses all activity.
