Abstract

AbstractThis chapter aims to describe the most popular modes of transport used by older adults for leisure travel, as well as to discuss the characteristics of the drive market as the most popular mode of leisure travel for older adults. Discussions on the use of recreational vehicles to establish temporary communities and the growing trend of a segment of older people known as 'snowbirds' to move to warmer climates are presented. Strategies that the motorcoach industry might use to increase usage by older adults are also presented, as well as an investigation on the growth in luxury cruise shipping for the wealthy baby boomer and older adult market.
