Abstract

The authors conduct a review of hydrometallurgical procedures for the mining and processing of uranium ores and the extraction of uranium from the feed material, including leaching, crushing, ion exchange, oxidation, solid-liquid separation, and other techniques. Leaching solutions as well as ion exchangers and oxidizers are comparatively assessed for their effects on the purity and properties of the product as well as on the mining and processing environment. Water recirculation in feed materials plants is discussed from the standpoint of water conservation and pollution abatement.
