Abstract
Abstract Seasonal and annual pollen deposition values are presented for a two year period 1969–71 from a series of local vegetation types within the boreal forest area of Kuusamo, Finland. Seasonal variation is seen to be closely related to time of flowering. Annual variation is marked, particularly in the case of Picea and Betula. The representation of non-local species is more constant both from site to site and from year to year but seasonal variation is noticeable. In any applications of these modern deposition values to the interpretation of fossil assemblages the time of commencement of the sampling year and the number of years for which results are available should be taken into account.
