Abstract

This study is a follow-up on the article “Modern Misir Tiyatrosu I” (“Modern Egyptian Drama I”) published in the 33rd volume of Ankara Universitesi Dil ve Tarih-Cografya Fakultesi Dergisi (Ankara University, the Journal of the Faculty of Languages and History-Geography). The article focuses on the contribution of Alexander Farah, Salama Hegazi and Jurj Abyad, who introduced new perspectives into the Egyptian theatre between the years 1875 and 1914, especially with their adaptations and translations from the English and French plays. Moreover, it explores the characteristics of the original works in the Egyptian theatre dealing with pre-Islamic Arabian history, history of classical Islam and modern Islam at the end of the 19th century and in the first quarter of the 20th century.
