Abstract

The principles of management of the septic trauma patient are similar, though in some ways more challenging, than the septic patient without trauma. These principles include confirmation that new or progressive organ failure is secondary to infection, identification of the site of infection, the administration of appropriate antibiotics, and surgical management of infection, if required.
