Abstract
Background. In connection with the spreading in linguistics the latest scientific paradigms during last decades, it becomes extremely important to study the category of address not only from the point of view of the grammatical tradition, but also from the point of view of functional syntax and functional morphology, communicative-pragmatic linguistics, sociolinguistics, linguistic stylistics, linguistic folklore studies, psycholinguistics.Purpose. The purpose of the article is to characterize possible contemporary approaches to the study of the category of address by Philology students in the course “Syntax of the Ukrainian Language”, taking into account the latest achievements of linguistics and interdisciplinary connections. Methods: descriptive method, method of complex analysis, method of functional analysis, method of comparison.Results. The article outlines possible contemporary approaches to the study of the category of address by the Philology students in the course of “Syntax of the Ukrainian language”, which include a complex semantic-grammatical, stylistic, linguo-pragmatic and sociolinguistic analysis. The emphasis is made on the need to consider four semantic-syntactic varieties of address, their formal grammatical positions in the structure of the sentence, communicative-pragmatic functions, and sociolinguistic marking in speech acts. It is worth demonstrating to students on concrete examples from texts of different language styles the following: the richness of morphological and lexical expressions of address, their stylistic functions; semantic-syntactic varieties of vocative in the functions of the addressee, the addressee-potential subject, the identifier, the subject-predicate-addressee; formally-syntactic position of the subjective under imperatives, indirect (refinement) sentence member, determinant, principal member of the monosyllable vocative sentence; communicative-pragmatic potential of so-called adequate and inadequate address as means of establishing contact with interlocutors in various speech acts depending on linguistic and extra-linguistic factors. It is important to prove for the students that the speaker’s choice of a particular means of representing an appellative is determined by a system of communicative-pragmatic, stylistic and sociolinguistic factors.Discussion. From the point of view of modem linguistics, address as a multidimensional linguistic and speech unit of communication requires comprehensive study by students of philological specialties during lectures and practical classes of the syntax of the Ukrainian language in close connection with the theoretical and practical achievements of related branches. In this regard, the processing of the psycholinguistic parameters of the appeal sphere in different types of discourse is perspective.Article received 15.08.2019
