Abstract

Approximate mathematical models for determining the shear stress, hydrodynamic boundary layer and viscous sublayer thicknesses, eddy viscosity in the flow core, and momentum, heat, and mass transfer coefficients are considered in the context of designing turbulent flow apparatuses involving random packed and granular beds. Computational formulas for these characteristics are presented, and the calculated data are compared to experimental data reported by different researchers.
