Abstract
As the numbers of patients seeking emergency department care for urgent psychiatric symptoms have dramatically increased across the USA, a variety of different treatment approaches have emerged to best serve this population. This article discusses the most prominent models of psychiatric crisis care and compares the pros and cons of each, with additional focus on the newest and most innovative approaches.
