Abstract

This article discusses the treatment of the mentally ill offenders in Italy. Although some progress has been made, a satisfying theoretical or practical solution has yet to be found in how to treat this population. Efforts are needed to develop efficient models of care that respect the personal dignity of psychiatric patients in detention facilities and to establish an effective course of treatment for the prevention of relapse into crime.
