Abstract
Cavities uniformly distributed on grain boundaries in polycrystals can grow without deformation in neighbouring grains. However cavities may be distributed non uniformly in which case a creep accommodation process is necessary. Diffusion or dislocation creep accommodation can control cavity growth in certain specialised circumstances. The paper derives rate equations for the control processes and assesses the regimes in which they operate.
