Abstract

This paper presents an approach of process failures monitoring suitable for complex automatic systems like flexible manufacturing systems. A hierarchical and modular structure corresponding to the monitoring and control requirements is described. In this architecture, communications between levels are not limited to control requests and execution reports. Each control and monitoring module must be able to accept any signal from the process and to elaborate an acceptable solution for each failure. All the evolutions of control and monitoring functions are managed by a supervisor using a monitoring model. This monitoring model represents the state of the functions of the module and the possible evolutions from a state to another one according to the monitoring strategy imposed by the designer.
