Abstract

Abstract To evaluate the effects or proposed flood protection structures at the mouth of the Neva River on the water quality in Neva Bay a model was proposed describing the water quality processes in Neva Bay. The following indices were modelled: permanganate oxidation, ammonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, oil products, phenols, dissolved oxygen, detergents, mineral phosphorus and BOD5. Field data were compared to the results obtained from the model and predictions made of the distribution of different parameters.
