Abstract

In this paper we develop a stochastic model for the development of heritable reciprocal translocations in spermatozoa by following the biological mechanism for the generation of spermatozoa. By using Kolmogorov forward equation we derive the probability generating function (PGF) of the number of translocation-carrying spermatids under some general conditions. Using the PGF's we then derive the means and the variances of the number of translocation-carrying spermatids; a procedure for computing the probability distribution of the translocation-carrying spermatids is also developed. The results are illustrated by some homogeneous models, leaving the results of nonhomogeneous models to our future work.
