Abstract

The sorption of a heavy metal — mercury (II) — on two naturally occurring oxides: anatase (TiO 2) and vernadite (δ-MnO 2) is studied here. Mercury sorption (II) data were modelled with the help of the commonly used surface complexation model. The results obtained were then compared with spectra obtained by ion beam analysis in order to gather further information on sorption mechanisms.
