Abstract

A kinetic model of the homogeneous catalytic hydrochlorination of ethyne is obtained on the basis of kinetic data, reactant solubilities and the phase equilibrium in the HCl-C 2H 5OH-C 2H 2 system. This model is compared with three simplified rate models by using a sequential discrimination procedure. The first model and one of the simplified models were applied to simulate a continuous stirred tank reactor cascade which includes a tubular plug flow reactor at its end. It is shown that the results produced by the two models do not differ significantly and thus both models may be successfully applied to simulate a plant-scale reactor system.
