Abstract
Modelling techniques developed for continuous-flow biological waste treatment processes are described. Development of the theory of mathematical representation of continuous-flow, mass-culture biological reactors is taken from the field of chemical reactor engineering. The purpose of this paper is to describe the techniques necessary to use this theory to build models of animal-waste treatment processes. Following the general development of the necessary equations for modelling, specific examples of the technique are illustrated for anaerobic lagoons and anaerobic digestion of a food waste and swine waste.
