Abstract

The current paper presents a study of the behaviour of backprop–floor slab interaction during the construction of a car park in Barcelona. The loads on a series of props and backprops were measured during construction and these measurements are compared with those from a finite-element computer model. The main objectives of this work are to verify if the computer model is able to reproduce with sufficient accuracy the true behaviour of the structure and to determine what proportion of the concrete load is supported by the props, slabs and columns. The final conclusions will be useful to manage the construction of a building using props.
