Abstract

The paper advances a new methodology for the description of local wind pressures on monoslope roofs by using time series analysis. Although skewed probability density functions cannot be modelled directly, a single, first-order, auto-regressive model has been foun sufficiently accurate for simulation purposes. Its parameters are provided for different roof zones as a function of the wind direction. The model can be used for computer generation of ‘equivalent wind tunnel pressures’ from which any statistics including extremes with specified risk (i.e. probability of exceedance) may be easily provided. In addition, the method provides for more detailed and therefore, more economical specifications in comparison to those of the current wind standards and codes of practice.
