Abstract

The aim of this study is to characterise the polishing of 316L stainless steel with structured abrasive belts based on their geometric features. An experimental test bench was set up to validate a model of the polishing process with abrasive grades. The polishing process was characterised in terms of forces and resulting surface characteristics (roughness and wettability). The existence of a minimum pressure level for the abrasive process is highlighted. Using experimental designs, we are able to validate the proposed model and to identify the parameters which come into play during a polishing operation.
