Abstract

AbstractTwo enhancements of a continuum damage mechanics model with a creep and fatigue part are presented in order to capture nonlinear damage accumulation of structural adhesive joints subjected to service loading. The enhancements are applied to the fatigue part and have an effect on its lifetime prediction due to variable amplitude loading, while its prediction for constant amplitude loading is not affected. Both approaches are validated by means of the comparison of test data with numerical lifetime predictions for shear loading with variable amplitudes.
