Abstract

The full-wave design and modelling using the extended FDTD method of a quasi-optical millimetre-wave receiver is described. The millimetre-wave receiver consists of an integrated annular slot element with a single planar Schottky barrier diode which acts simultaneously both as an antenna and a mixer. The annular slot is chosen for its high symmetrical radiation pattern that is important in quasi-optical techniques. Matching circuits and filters in a coplanar waveguide (CPW) line are connected to the annular slot design to create a low-profile receiver at 90 GHz. The receiver is integrated with an elliptical lens to produce a beam of high Gaussian efficiency in a quasi-optical system.
