Abstract

The use of driver assistance systems is a current trend in the car industry. However, most driver assistance systems require the use of multiple sensors, increasing the cost of their implementation in cars and making them inaccessible to many users. This project introduces a Lane Departure Warning System where the system will monitor and assist the driver when driving by using an Android mobile device. The system uses the rear camera of devices and places the device at the center front of the driver’s dashboard. The rear camera captures the view of the driving mode on the road and detects the lane via image processing and computer vision techniques. The simulation development of the process is done by using MATLAB Simulink software and Hough Transform algorithm using recorded video and real-time video processing through the webcam. The final development of the project sees the implementation of the system to an application of lane departure to android device. This project assists the driver in real-time monitoring for lane marking on both sides of the road lane, and if any departing occurs, the driver will be notified via graphics and sound alert.
