Abstract

Impurity transport in a scrape-off layer(SOL) of a toroidal device is analyzed based on a single particle motion using Monte Carlo procedures. A Langevin-type equation of motion is solved for an impurity particle. To follow long racks of impurity particles, a guiding center model is adopted. The SOL adopted in this analysis is equivalen topologically to that of Large Helical Device (LHD). Screening efficiency of a SOL for the impurity penetration into a core plasma, deposition distribution of impurity particles and the relative densities of neutral and ionized impurity particles are discussed for two sets of plasma parameters assumed.
