Abstract

Abstract Today wind energy plays important role in the competitive wind market. In this paper, we study the performance of the overall doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system under different conditions. The DFIG technology has proven to be an efficient and cost-effective solution for variable speed wind turbines. This system allows a variable speed operation over a huge range. In this system, rotor windings connected to grid through a bidirectional back-to-back IGBT-based voltage source converter which compensates the difference between the mechanical angular frequency and grid frequency by injecting a rotor current with a variable frequency.
