Abstract

The recent publication of experimental and theoretical results from verified arc models has made possible the implementation and testing of a dynamic circuit-breaker model using the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). An estimator was developed to obtain model parameters from test data. Results obtained with the estimator are given, and its data requirements are specified. To illustrate an application of the model not possible with the previous capabilities of EMTP, simulations of load-current interruption in a multiterminal HVDC system were performed. Results from these are included, along with a discussion of the effects of system and model parameter variation on the interruption process.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
