Abstract

AbstractThe production of L‐glutamic acid with Corynebacterium glutamicum under biotin limitation was studied. Assuming a formal type of cell maturation, an adequate formal kinetic model was developed. This model includes growth, dependent on biotin, and uses the same retention term for describing the lag phase and cell maturation. Special attention was paid to the graphical interpretation of the performance between the variables, which is relevant for kinetics. Comparison between experiments and the model resulted in different degrees of agreement. However, the main trend of the experimental patterns of the complex bioprocess can clearly be mirrored in this model.
