Abstract

Advances in dynamical systems theory and technologies have provided an opportunity to model the core processes of escalation and de-escalation between conflicting groups. The processes are depicted in the form of propositions based on the sociology of conflict literature (Druckman and Zechmeister, 1973). The model captures the dynamics of conflict as depicted by the theory, with particular emphasis on the roles of shifting power and memory for losses in previous conflicts. The simulation will be demonstrated and opportunities will be provided for audience participation during and after the session.
