Abstract

The energy crisis provides a stimulus for the development of alcoholic fermentation on industrial scale. The paper deals with the studies concerning the automatic control of the continuously operating pilot unit being a cascade of 6 reactors. The mathematical model of this unit in the form of 18 nonlinear differential equations is given. The components of the two dimensional control vector are: the cubotratc concentration and the flow rate on the: input of the first fermenter. This dimension could be augmented in the case where other fermentors are fed and the biomass is recycled. The model contains 3 parameters which have to be identified. The paper presents also first approach of optimization (static optimization). Some information concerning the instrumentation and the computer system applied for measurement and control is given. This system is composed of a microcomputer (connected to the pilot unit) and a minicomputer communicating by a telecommunication line.
