Abstract

This paper presents a model and a simulator of parallel computers for on-line transaction processing (OLTP). The authors also present some performance results obtained by the simulator. In OLTP systems that consist of parallel computers, system performance depends on two system configuration factors: the number of hardware components that operate in parallel, and their interconnection scheme. The proposed model and simulator describe these factors. The results obtained from the simulation experiments seem to emphasize the importance of suitable selection of these configuration factors to achieve good performance.
